When you watch this series, it really seems that victory in Stalingrad would have been guaranteed if they didn't split AGS. A few extra divisions would have seen the Germans push the Soviets in all these areas. Whilst the other armies secure Astrakhan.

Because Britain wanted and got itself into war with Germany, not Russia. Despite the British arguments of "alliance" and "legal obligations" when it comes to official reasons for war, because as you note. This "alliance" with Poland wasn't anywhere to be seen just 2 weeks after the German invasion.

@brandaonb4249 "wouldn't the Soviets still have surrounded them " No, because instead of being faced by Romanians with pea shooters, the Soviets would have faced German tanks and heavy equipment. See Operation Mars for the results.

@Dougthebug-e6m the supply was terrible with army group A because they were travelling hundreds of miles into the caucuses. Varonezh and the area around the Don was hundreds of miles nearer to their supply lines, they could have had divisions there if they wanted to, just like how they had divisions in Stalingrad to begin with as well as these "terrible supplies" delivering the expenditure of more ammunition in a few months than the entire of barbarossa.
