"It's not recognized universally as an independent state" and if say; Russia was supporting the independence of a breakaway region Sky News would say "Taiwan is overwhelmingly recognized as part of China"

It's more like Alaska, Texas or some other breakaway region of the US. Cuba has full international recognition as an independent state, Taiwan is recognized by 180 of 193 UN member states as being part of China.

@paullangton-rogers2390 my point is clearly the double standards in language when reporting on similar issues and that language is distinctly different when applying it to other countries e.g. China "dominates" whilst the US simply "controls".

@mutanthybrid3466 "it has definable territorial lines and its own government controlling that territory" With that basis you'd support the breakaway territories of Eastern Ukraine then ?
