  2. Why do billionaires lobby for lower wages, including keeping the federal minimum wage historically low and not allowing it to keep pace with inflation? Now minimum wage businesses are closing everywhere as a result. Nobody wants to work for them anymore. Billionaires are shortsighted. They favor short term profits and are kind of dumb when it comes to seeing the long term. They will destroy the current system because they think they can gain more by destroying it. They will start by privatizing everything and replacing people with machines. This way they won't have to worry about worker shortages or disgruntled employees. Other than maintenance costs, the machines will work for free. So they'll continue to pay $7.25 an hour minimum wage in hopes that the temporary closure of minimum wage jobs due to staffing shortages due to nobody wanting to work for next to nothing will pave the way for machines to take those jobs.
