  1. Anti-intellectualism is a conservative Christian thing. Knowing too much threatens their precious religion and their myopic way of thinking.

  2.  @jonrendell  You have to appeal to their emotions. You have to scare them. For example, if you want people to be more environmentally conscious tell them your right to drinking clean water is being violated by corporate greed. Then tell them a story about how a kid became autistic from water borne contamination near an industrial plant. The story doesn't even have to be true. Just propaganda to scare them.
