  1. I noticed that ants on the sidewalk near my house carried off dead ants when I was about 3 years old. That's when I realized that ants might have empathy and respect for each other and I stopped stepping on them.

  2. True. We live in a complex society where different people have knowledge and expertise in different areas. Society as a whole is smart. A single individual is limited in intelligence and skill in comparison to the collective intelligence and skill of society. In this way, society is like a beehive or an ant colony. It works best when there are are no dictators or kings or queens in charge who think they know everything.
