+ChristianIce Culturally Indian but not Hindu. You still celebrate the cultural Hindu holidays BECAUSE THEY ARE INDIAN but you are not religious. Does the concept of culturally Jewish but not religious make sense now? You don't have to be religious for Hanukkah to be part of your culture. I don't understand what is difficult to understand about this. It's simple enough. Likewise, you can be culturally Japanese without being Shinto. Just because certain festivals, holidays, and customs are religiously themed doesn't mean you're religious for being a part of them. That's what it means to be culturally Jewish and not religious. Jew is a nationality, but Judaism is a religion. Likewise, Indian is a nationality, but Hindu is a religion. Being culturally Jewish is more about national identity than it is about religion. You don't have to believe in Judaism to be a Jew any more than you have to believe in the Hawaiian god Pele to be a Hawaiian Polynesian. You can still do the hula and you're culturally Hawaiian.

ChristianIce I don't know. Maybe if you moved to Japan and started following the traditions you'd be Japanese culturally. So I guess you would be culturally Jewish if you did that in Israel. It's not uncommon for people to fall into a culture when they're visiting another country that follows that culture.
