I'm going to say something unpopular: another way you can vote with your wallet is to pay more for the "lifetime subscription" / having the features unlocked on purchase, so long as: - The purchase transfers to all future owners - The value of the car is still in line with the price after upsells. Because telling automakers, "I'm fine paying for heated seats, but this subscription idea is a joke" will hopefully get the product manager canned who convinced BMW to sink millions into the infrastructure required to maintain that rent-seeking behavior.
