  2. First off: you can set up a system like this (on my dd, I have pacman, yay, conda, pipx, cargo and now Nix), it's just that this combination is cursed. Second: I think he was trying to say, "I don't care which GNU/Linux* you use, just choose one." *Third: Not trying to crawl up Stallman's urethra—just trying to differentiate from Android, ChromeOS and a few other locked down operating systems which also use the Linux kernel.

  6. RasPad 3? [Edit: Alternatively:] if you have access to a 3D printer and aren't intimidated by sourcing components (soldering should be optional), it should be a good project to build a (chonky) Pi5-based tablet.

  7.  @Guishan_Lingyou  Sorry, to clarify: those were two separate suggestions. RasPads come as an easy-to-assemble kit, but they haven't released a Pi 5 edition yet.

  8. Yeah, this is a great time to use Debian, but bear in mind that the two-year release cycle means that it's going to be unpleasant to use as a daily driver in the first half of 2025. I still recommend Debian or Mint as Baby's First Linux, but for my own purposes I've switched almost entirely to rolling releases.
