Valve—and specifically GabeN—see the XBox Store as their #1 existential threat. If Microsol decides to pull a Cupertino and limit certain capabilites to their "software partners," Steam is hosed. Sinking all this investment into Linux is their escape valve 🥁. Of course, them deciding to open source their secret sauce is what makes them the 🐐.

On the one hand, this seems like a Brodie troll, and that popping is a pretty easy effect to add. On the other, Kdenlive just did this to one of my videos for zero reason (the source audio was fine), and the popping was still there on a re-render, so 🤷♂️

I'm frankly shocked that Adobe hasn't gone browser/cloud only by now.

The funny thing is that for open source software, those nerds are also the ones submitting PRs. I maintain a handful of Minecraft mods which, being Java, function identically on all operating systems. But half of my bug reports, 3/4 or my issue discussion and 100% of my outside contributions come from Team Penguin.

@NightDescendant I'm demonstrating my ignorance here—and am glad to be learning. I thought Blender had workflows for parametric design. But then again I've heard of people using Blender as a nonlinear video editor. So if you and OC are saying that the Linux tools are nowhere near as suited for the job as AutoCAD and SolidWorks, I stand happily correctly!

You mean like specialized industrial software? Blender is FOSS, Autodesk has a Linux port of Maya, and more and more tools are moving to the browser/cloud, so I'm surprised to hear this.

AppImage is a godsend—even more so than flatpak. Works everywhere, requires zero coordination with dependencies.

75% of the time when I buy a game with a dedicated Linux port, it's a Unity game I force Steam to use the Windows version to get better stability.
