12:58 is kind of hitting the nail on the head—if GTK5 doesn't support an app developer's target environment, then they won't update to GTK5. If GIMP is still using GTK2 after 20 years, our grandkids will still be using something written using GTK4.

This is one area where RedHat (and Canonical) need to step up. Can't sell your software to corporations and governments with disability protections if your software doesn't have basic accessibility.

If nothing else, it's proper semver to save your breaking changes for the major version bump. If they want to throw up a bunch of deprecation warnings now, fine—never too early to give people a head's up.

If you've been using Pop_OS! there really should be no need to change to anything else. Chasing fractional gains on a "gaming optimized" distro is a losing proposition that's going to depend a ton on your hardware, the kernel version and whether Mercury is in retrograde. The only reason to go Arch would be to make it easier to DE hop (I have COSMIC as my Wayland compositor and Pantheon as my X11 fallback, for example).

Anything is better than the GNOME desktop, lol. I've been a KDE hater since before KDE 4 happened, and all but one of my favorite DEs are GTK-based, and even I think GNOME is mobile-wannabe trash. Anyway, if GNOME only wants to support Wayland in GTK5, we'll just see forks—that's how we got MATE, right?

LibreOffice is pretty nice, IMO. But if GDocs isn't your style, I believe Office365 is fully available in the browser now.

@us4tiyny4n COSMIC is absolutely daily drivable if you don't mind dealing with jank and other "alpha problems" (I also suspect the Pop_OS! image is more stable than the Arch experience). Just make sure to install SteamTinkerLauncher so you can force gamescope.
