The one game I bought that didn't work on launch day was fixed within 24 hours, and I was able to track the progress (and even test the Proton patch!) in an open source repo. That's a huge paradigm shift from the traditional model where your only avenue is to complain on forums and wait for an official statement.

Desktop GNU/Linux¹ going mainstream is going to send the hardcore neckbeards scurrying. I mean—the rock-solid stability of Ubuntu² is what ended up pushing me to Arch³, so I include myself in this description. ¹read: not ChromeOS ²plus the difficulty of installing bleeding edge packages like the ROCm stack ³and what has me occasionally eyeing Nix

Merry Xmas, Broidie. Hope Old Nick brought you some new gaming... paraphernalia. Let us know if you post a review of 13:28 anywhere. 😂

As I understand it, Microsol is one of the archetypical examples of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing.

While immutable distros (distinct from atomic ones, where you decide what's included and can roll back to a prior configuration) may work fine for Baby's First Linux, I'm not a fan of the trend overall—if I want kitty instead of Konsole as my terminal emulator I should be able to change that without installing an entire package overlay.

"Normie" distros need to be working overtime to get their installers to the point where they set up everything automatically, and everything a user could want is a click away in a GUI "store." elementaryOS 8 has done this really well, Mint has a good track record (but Wayland is still experimental), Fedora KDE is going to be a full spin, and Pop_OS! is going to be the 🐐 once COSMIC is released.

@cameronbosch1213 AI is going to kill it. Few people want AI, fewer still wants always on AI, and nobody wants to be told that their perfectly good laptop is no longer supported because it can't run AI.
