Eh. The migration system could be a script that users run exactly once. I'm usually against breaking backwards compatibility, especially without a deprecation window, but when your design is this bad, it's fine (and it's even fine by semver if you save the change for a major release).

Honestly, while the KDE design is obviously wrong, it's always seemed weird to me that DEs share the same user-config space in the first place. Brodie-on-Plasma and Brodie-on-COSMIC should be treated as two different users—maybe even all the way to having two different home dirs. Bear in mind: I'm a weirdo with the "un-UNIX" philosophy that documents and data should go on entirely separate partitions from /home anyway.
