The overlap is fairly substantial between people who say physics is dead and people who upgrade their computers every two years to take advantage of "the latest silicon."

@JMurph2015 The rapid-fire advances in material science and lithography techniques in particular is the reason why CPUs and GPUs are worth upgrading.

@JMurph2015 Particle physics is just one sub-branch of physics, and even there the results have been impressive (including the negative results—the disproving of supersymmetry). Any of the advancements she listed would qualify you a Physics PhD or a Nobel in Physics. To add to her list: my own PhD was for nonlinear dynamics—Chaos Theory is only 48 years old, and theoretical breakthroughs (as in, pen and paper, not just computer simulation) happen regularly and inform everything from our understanding of galaxy formation to weather and climate forecasts to the light patterns produced by fireflies.
