@realhawaii5o What country are you from? Even though you're trying to learn the language, depending on your ethnicity, you may still never be assimilateable. If you're from Northern Europe, it shouldn't be a problem, but anywhere else, it could be.

@mikekerman8285 This "mess" was intentional. It was the purpose of the Soviets, right from the start, to have potential surrogates and pro Russian "insurrectionists," that could be used for justification for invading the Baltics in order to "protect the persecuted Russian minority," just like they did in Ukraine. Everyone has known this for decades, both the Estonians and the Russians. It's not even a secret. The Russians need to go back home to Russia, otherwise, there will always be this catalyst to war. And, no matter how assimilated, the Russians in Estonia will always support a Russian invasion.

@sebe2255 They were pro Russian before. They've always been pro Russian. If Russia invades, they'll support it. Russia inserted them into Estonia for the very purpose of using them as an excuse to invade in order to "protect the persecuted Russian minority." Russians in the Baltics already represent an invasion.

@ivanz5 "But the problem is they don't want to go to Russia, they want Russia to come to them." There. You exactly identified the issue.

@lani6647 You don't get it. By far, most of the Russians were planted there intentionally by the Soviet government in order to change Estonian ethnic identity and it's sense of nationalism as well as a future excuse to invade in order to "protect the persecuted Russian minority." They don't learn Estonian because they know it's only a matter of time until Russia invades and takes over again.

@SLDimarco By far, most of the Russians were planted there intentionally by the Soviet government in order to change Estonian ethnic identity and it's sense of nationalism, so they would be easier to control, as well as a future excuse to invade in order to "protect the persecuted Russian minority." They don't learn Estonian because they know it's only a matter of time until Russia invades and takes over again and Russian becomes the dominant language again and native Estonians are FORCED to learn and speak Russian.
