  2. Jews were excluded because they aren't European, but of middle eastern ancestry (this has been proven by DNA as well). Though some Jews had intermarried with Europeans to a degree over the centuries, which explains why some didin't look quite as semitic, by and large, they both were and looked semitic/middle eastern and clearly not European, especially not northern European.
