@CuriousCrow-mp4cx The UK debt could in theory be repaid overnight. It would just have to create enough new money (not print) to repay that debt. In practice of course that would be problematic. Government has created hundreds of billions of pounds of new money for QE.

There are a number of trends that I expect will continue and are very likely to be problematic. Inequality and the need for some form of wealth recycling is one but healthcare is another. With an aging population and more expensive treatments becoming available, healthcare for the elderly could start to soar. The elderly already take up a significant proportion of healthcare costs. In tertiary education we have seen government reducing their exposure by means of loans. A similar approach could also be applied in healthcare to say the over 60s. Under this system, NHS treatment would;d be charged and added to a persons healthcare loan with the loan either being repaid from their estate upon death or written off at that stage. I have yet to see an articulation of why student loans are acceptable and valid but healthcare loans for the elderly are not.

@theolddog5129 Yes. That's the route that they have taken and are faced with a real problem. They are very much anti immigration and over the last 15 years have seen their population size drop by 3 million as the population ages and the birth rate falls.
