Russia today is like a mafia state run by oligarchs for oligarchs and is certainly closer to the old imperialist state than the communist one that it once tried to become. If it wanted to, Russia could engage with the rest of the world and thrive and be very successful. Instead it has turned inward to become isolationist, fearful of any threats to the iron grip that it has on its own people.

The public need to wake up to this. We are in transition right across the western world towards one where the public are viewed as just another resource to be manipulated. The wealthy may locate to tax havens but their assets remain. Perhaps ownership of assets now need to be identified and those where the owner can't be identified or are resident in a tax haven need to be taxed.
