Why is it that Richard is able to think about and articulate very real issues like this, yet government with all of the resources that it has, is incapable of any such articulation or thought process into the future?

@billB101 Superficially maybe but no I really don't. It's much the same with their economic policies.

@billB101 I must have missed it. Where did you see all of this? I often wonder over what time frame AI development will really start to bite, whether UBI is part of the solution etc etc. I would be grateful for your source of insight. On the subject of economics, again I seemed to have missed Reeves's statements on surging wealth inequality and asset price inflation, anything on MMT or the significant drop in UK debt relating to public sector pension liability and whether it provides more scope for borrowing.

The world is being increasingly taken over by billionaire oligarchs. They have the money to develop AI but do you really think that they are concerned about employment issues?

@ That's the problem. Government is often too worried about short term public opinion and tends to suffer from tunnel vision. The problems that we are faced with at present are so significant that a much broader mindset is needed.
