The reference to generations is part of an essential understanding what is going on in politics at the moment. I am sure that everyone is aware that the older generation were very pro Brexit but the younger generation were very much for Remain. I am 68.In my original posting I also forgot to mention the very important fire sale of the council housing stock by Thatcher. We then had the financial deregulation of the banks by Thatcher and Reagan which led to the banking crash of 2008 with a worldwide cost of bank failures of $20 trillion. The Labour government had to bail out numerous banks including RBS and LLoyds and of course we saw the collapse of Northern Rock. Some people have done very nicely out of the financial deregulation and we now have lots of buy to let millionaires. The downside is that we also have a massive national debt.

I would say its probably worse than presented. I am over retirement age but I can see that the younger generation have been and continue to be screwed unless they wake up and start taking an interest:1. Older generation had free university tuition.2. Older generation only had to take out a mortgage of 2.5 to 3 times salary for a house purchase.3. Older generation plundered the mutuals that had been built up by past generations and left nothing.4. The older generation sold off all of the public utilities and state owned industry.5. The UK has a massive national debt arising from the US sub prime housing crash which affected banks everywhere. Rather than tackle this, the older generation have been reducing taxes so that the problem is passed onto the next generation. The media would have you believe that Labour caused the US housing and worldwide financial crash. Crazy!
