  1. Hundreds of years ago, Dutch and Taiwanese intermarried, and my ex-wife's grandmother was Dutch, so my son was partly Dutch. Before 1661, there were no Chinese on the island. Historically, several countries had occupied the island. China was one of them; Japan was the last country to rule Taiwan and later returned to the Republic of China, but it had nothing to do with the People's Republic of China, which never ruled Taiwan for even a day. So Taiwan has never been a province of China.
