brigham2250 Trumpists are attached to their beliefs. They WANT to believe them. So when Trump comes along and validates them, they love him for it. More, they way he completely invalidates any care about the truth it supercharges their feeling of validation in their own ignorant and often bigoted beliefs. Where progressives want to rely on empirical facts, Trumpists are desperate to wrap themselves in a blanket of comforting lies, and he allows they to do this better than anyone else. That's why they would die for him. It's perverse and fucked up but it's a facet of human cognitive weakness.
