The maladaptive logic of capitalism cannot respond to the climate crisis. And Biden, as a true believer, is incapable of facing the reality of what is required. Our elite class of politicians and their corporate paymasters can't conceive of making an investment to save the very future of our civilisation if there isn't a short term profit payoff.

@currymunch6097 Nuclear is only possible with massive public subsidies, explicit and implicit. Tbh I don't mind those in principle. What I mind is that subsidies are well spent. And nuclear is veeeeery expensive vs the alternatives and veeeery slow to build. Any nuclear projects that were started today wouldn't be on stream until the 2030s, by which time, the climate will have already been lost for good. Sure, we can start building some amount of nuclear as an insurance policy for hard-to-decarbonise generation later, but we need massive rapid decarbonisation right now, and that is best done with renewables and storage. These are both cheap and fast to build.
