Nationalisation of the big 5 would cost about 10% more than what Labour are already committed to spending. Starmer IS ideologically opposed to public ownership, despite his lies in 2020 to the contrary.
13
13:25 "we have to [mislead while] being careful not to look like we are misleading" The Tories are fully committed to misinformation and lies now. Gove wouldn't apologise for their twitter account masquerading as a fact checking service. They are vile. As the facts aren't on their side so they just create new ones out of thin air.
13
Where Starmer is going is not "left".
13
And throwing away the lives of tens of thousands more Ukrainian conscripts.

@alexdiaconu7979 You don't understand how the railway now operates in the U.K. The rail operating companies have guaranteed profits. Ticket revenues go to the government and the government pays them a royalty on all those revenues. The train operating companies literally cannot lose and they are taking no risk. Meanwhile they also cannot actually negotiate independently with the unions because the Sec of State for Transport sets the terms that they can offer the workers. So this is a crisis created in Downing St. The companies would happily settle with the unions but the government is actually preventing them from doing so by imposing impossible terms on the deal (mass job losses, 50% reductions in maintenance work, large real terms pay cuts etc). If you want to travel on a safe and reliable railway, you ought to be opposed to this government policy as a passenger.

@allykhan8594 We don't even have to go that far. A working democracy in government, some workplace democracy, proper taxation and an end to the pursuit of profit at the cost of people and planet.
12
Ten times more spent on a corrupt and useless track and trace fiasco than on saving the planet from climate catastrophe. Tory priorities in a nutshell.

He said he was 100% behind Israel. How is that balanced?
12
The Daily Groove It really wasn’t. Just as he came to the point and said “What we need to do to succeed is...” I thought, ‘oh, Boris has a plan for us at last. This will be interesting.’. Sadly, his next words were “believe in Britain” which got a big cheer from his Brexiteer colleagues but is precisely the vacuous bullshit that has characterised Brexiteer politics ever since the campaign. No plans, no support for any plans from anyone else - just wrecking of any attempt to save the U.K. from a hard Brexit, or indeed no deal at all. When the referendum happened, only 35% of Leave voters thought that we would leave the Single Market. Indeed 42% of Leave voters thought that staying in the Single Market was more important than reducing immigration, along with 94% of remainers. Now, Brexiteers are making out that a majority of Britons would be happy with no deal. It’s appalling dishonesty and puts ideology and lust for power before country.
12
You are right. Labour are literally Tories now. Starmer is actually right of Boris Johnson.
12
Are they allies of the USA? No? Then no, they have no right to do anything... That's what "international rules based system means"...
12
Don't forget how "intensely relaxed" he was about billionaires... The guy is a cancer in the Labour movement.
12
A week ago, the Biden administration told OPEC to increase oil production to bring down prices and stimulate demand. He just announced the sale of leases on new oil fields that will produce 1.2 billion barrels over the next 30 years. Not the actions of a president who takes climate change seriously.
12
Politicians who tell kids to get back to work so they can fix climate change when they grow up are liars and cowards. If this generation doesn't stop climate change now, todays kids won't have a chance. It will be far too late.
11
Delusional Brexiteers and Trump supporters incoming....
11
6:45 "I have a tremendous amount of respect for Mr Johnson." That settles it. She's a cretin!
11
He has broken every promise he made to Labour members when he ran for leader. You're absolutely right not to trust him one inch.
11
And yet the Canadians are spending billions building huge pipelines to carry their filthy tar sands crude away from Alberta. It's nothing short of insane. The greed and callousness of the oil industry knows no bounds.
11
@stickersadd20hp Exactly Aside from putting them in jail, the best thing is to stop funding their crimes
11
6:00 the fossil fuel majors are not investing in clean energy. Over the years since Paris in 2015, they have spent 1% of their R&D on clean energy. This excuse that they need these massive profits to invest in clean energy is a massive lie. BP have already said that nearly all those profits are going directly to their wealthy shareholders.
11
They were settlers moving on illegally and brutally occupied land in the West Bank. I think there are many other people who deserve our sympathy more.
11
5:07 this position in effect means "when Israel says so" which means never. I wonder how the USA would feel if Russia could decide if Ukraine could have a state....
11
@mwd331 there have been over a hundred Palestinians killed this year. Together they don't get as much attention and "human interest" reporting as this. For the MSM, Israelis are people. Palestinians are statistics.
11
They are hardly secretive about it.
11
The reason for slow treatment and long waiting lists is due to the government systematically underfunding and understaffing the NHS.
11
When I was a kid and wanted to be an engineer, I thought "the energy industry" was like something out of a sci fi movie. I thought it was amazing shiny machines and flashing lights. Then I found out that it meant digging filthy smelly poisonous coal and oil out of the ground and burning it. 😢 I want the clean, renewable and advanced energy system of my childhood imagination, and it's closer than ever! Screw the fossil fuel industry. Their activity directly wrecks our climate and environment. They have left the planet dirty, contaminated and on its way to catastrophe. End subsidies now. End exploration now. It's time for a change.
11
☝️it's ok folks. We found the guy who supports apartheid and war crimes.
11
They will blame immigrants, then councils, then administrators, then patients for not looking after themselves then doctors and nurses. Basically anyone but themselves.
11
5:00 this analysis is spot on! 👍
11
Spend spend spend then wreck the economy with a no-deal Brexit so it can't be paid for. Genius 🤦♂️
11
Hopefully it will be even better attended tomorrow! I wish I could be there. Thank you for standing up for life! ✊
11
I watch this on the way to a climate protest. It's the only chance we have to force action. Find your local group and get involved. Save yourself and your kids future. ✊
11
Please tell me it's over now...
11
Martynas Domeika I’m sorry I said anything now. You are evidently clueless and living in a delusional fantasy.
11
Imagine putting a scientist in charge of your government Environment Department? What a good idea!! Shame our governments just keeps putting one corrupt clown in after and another. FFS it wasn't that long ago that we had a climate denier in that job in the U.K.!
10
Stop using Twitter already.
10
Evan Prest His support in the U.K. is 11%. His support in the US is 41%. The popularity of the US has fallen very steeply in almost every other country worldwide since his election, except Russia, The Philippines and Israel. So no, he does not have “massive support”. He has very sparse support. And those that don’t like him generally dislike him very strongly.
10
No, that's already a thing. Going to jail for owning a drug less harmful than alcohol is pretty bad for mental health.
10
Shame the Labour leadership won't support nationalisation even when everyone is crying out for it. Just like water, energy, post etc.
10
What was really rejected in 2019 was Kier Starmer's plan for a second referendum. The 2017 manifesto was very popular and Labour got a higher percentage of the vote then than they will get this time around. Even with the right of the party actively sabotaging the campaign in 2017...
10
Jonathan Barnes I think you missed the point of my comment. We are putting the gun to OUR heads by threatening no deal. And BTW Agincourt was 600 years ago. I don't want to scare you, but the world has actually changed a little since then. France is now a close strategic ally and one of our biggest trading partners.
10
We do, but on the NHS, Starmer and Streeting have the same plan.
10
ONG did Grant Shapps just worry that Corbyn would wreck the economy?!?! 😂 That's priceless when it's his PLAN to wreck the economy with a no-deal crash out of the EU!! What a joker!
10
0:23 His right-wing, financial elite, CIA-backed opponents that is. 2:01 good god- this woman. Not only was she involved in the illegal coup in 2003, she has been on the U.S. payroll ever since. Very disappointing bias from C4.
10
suroj What, you mean like every election ever? The people have the right to change their mind and no government can be bound by a previous one, nor can the population of 2018 be bound by the electorate of 2016, many of whom are now dead! If you thought that Leave would win a referendum on a final deal vs remaining you would approve it. You know you would lose it so YOU have to resort to denying the will of the people.
10
This breach of trust and law could not happen at a worse time. We will be without a single meaningful trade deal come 1/1/21. We are desperately in need of trade deals around the world. But who is going to engage with this load of incompetent chancers? Let alone rush a trade deal through in months rather than the usual period of 7 years which is the average for new trade deals. This is just a display of staggering ineptitude and hubris.

Christopher Jennings These companies should be on their way out of business. If they want taxpayers to bail them out then they can give up equity for it. Else let them go to the markets for their money and see who is willing to prop them up while they literally can't give their product away. As to profitability, oil only makes money because it enjoys massive explicit and implicit subsidies from taxpayers and citizens generally. If it actually paid its way, the prices would sky rocket and the business would become unviable in its current form. https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/WP/Issues/2019/05/02/Global-Fossil-Fuel-Subsidies-Remain-Large-An-Update-Based-on-Country-Level-Estimates-46509

Good report. I love how it shows just how evidence-free the focus on f'ing straws was!! And yeah, screw the damn cotton tote bags!! They are crazy resource intensive.
10
JRM was the one who suggested two referendums. Time for the second one please Jacob.
