  1. This is the last chance to stop the climate crisis running out of control. 🌍🔥😢 The Climate crisis is a bigger issue than Brexit by 100x. Brexit will be forgotten in 100 years. The climate crisis will be still be feeling felt in 1000 years. Literally. Now is genuinely our last chance. We must stop the Tories being given control of our climate because they will wreck it.

  2. FW Blok "What people are talking about" doesn't change what the biggest priority actually should be. There are people who understand the climate crisis and are scared, but might not vote Labour because of their Brexit policy. I am saying that that would be a mistake because climate policy must take priority.

  3. Stewart Duncan I can see why you're sceptical but I don't agree. I think they see this as an opportunity to destroy one of the dirtiest, richest, oligarchic and most corrupt industries in history. That is a mouthwatering prospect for Corbyn. The fossil fuel industry is 100% against the political left now. There is nothing in it for Labour to go easy on them.

What kind of public initiatives are going to fund the roll out of EV charging infrastructure? What public initiatives are going to ban the use of petrol and diesel cars in cities, then nationwide? What public initiatives are going to ban the use of domestic gas heating? What public initiatives are going to reduce livestock farming by 30-50%? What public initiatives are going to provide jobs for all the people whose jobs are lot as we transition to a net-zero carbon economy? If you think we can stop climate change in time without major government intervention then you have not understood how huge the transformation has to be, and how fast. Did we fix the hole in the ozone layer with government action? No. Or acid raid? No Or lead in petrol? No Etc The market can't fix environmental issues because it has no incentive to. The market sees the environment as a place to externalise its costs and artificially reduce prices, but in the end everyone pays the costs. That is precisely what government regulation is there to overcome. If we don't have strong government intervention in markets all across the economy, I'm afraid we will certainly lose the fight against climate change, and that is unconscionable.

  5. Live Life Higher taxes on the wealthy. Higher taxes on extractive and exploitative companies. Higher taxes on international tax-dodging internet behemoths. More investment in HMRC to catch tax dodgers. Etc The tax rate as a percentage of the economy is at a near record low right now and it's showing in the state of public services and the well-being of the working and middle class.

  7. Nancy Thomas-Ward M.B.A What point are you trying to make? The corporation tax rate on mid/large businesses (not small businesses) has been in free fall under the Tories. That needs to be reversed. The HMRC has cut its enforcement budget so more tax dodgers are getting away with it. That needs to be reversed. Massive international tech behemoths are doing billions of pounds business in the UK but pay next to no tax. That needs to be fixed with a tax on turnover that can't be avoided, like in France. See what I am getting at?

It has 28 different corporation tax policies because it has 28 members. And the corporate tax policy in Hungary is completely different to that in Denmark. Either way, the tax burden in the UK as a share of GDP is much lower than it was under, say, the Blair government, and the country was doing very well until the banks crashed the economy. The country can easily bear significantly more tax and especially on the rich and corporations, whose effective tax rates have fallen most. Plus, government spending on infrastructure is extremely stimulative to the economy. Spending on things like transport, energy, communications and science can repay their investment 10x or more. The UK economy has pathetic productivity in many areas and underinvestment in national infrastructure is a major reason for that.

  9. Celtic Warrior33 I didn't mean that, no. Progressive taxation means the rich pay a bigger proportion of their income and wealth than the poor. For example, only the richest 10% of the population pay higher rate tax. And the top 1% have to be earning £160,000 a year or more. Those people can afford to pay higher taxes. As can the companies they work for. And that's before you look at wealth taxes for the top 0.1% etc. The working and middle class are not where the opportunities are. The rich and corporations are.
