Remember, if this deal is signed, we have 14 months to negotiate trade deals with the 60+ countries that the EU already has comprehensive deals with, including Japan, Canada, Korea and most of South America. And worldwide, trade deals typically take about 7 YEARS to negotiate... Oh, plus, we have to do a deal with the EU itself during that time - a deal that has to be ratified by every single EU nation, right down to the regional council of Wallonia. "Bonne chance avec ça" as Barnier might say...

A deal with the EU is worth more to a country like the US or Japan than a deal with the UK, so they will offer better access to their markets to get it.
