I am sure he is a smart guy, but his analysis that the Tories can champion levelling up is as empty and unhinged as when Liz Truss talked about how the damage to her hometown done by Thatcherism made her a Conservative. You have to ignore reality and the underlying mission of conservatism to make any of these ideas make sense. To call this politics by vibe would be generous. It is a bizarre, incoherent fever dream, unmoored from the fundamental realities of how power and money work in an increasingly illiberal, neoliberal capitalist state like the UK.
