  5. Walls and bunkers are irrelevant. A nuclear exchange causes a nuclear winter which wiped out food supplies globally within months. Everyone starves to death.

  6. They are old enough to have heard of a nuclear winter. They are just so chauvinistic that they are more excited by the idea of launching nukes than they are terrified of the prospect of mass starvation on a global scale.

  7. In the 1980s, the US and Soviet governments learned that after an exchange of nuclear weapons, a "nuclear winter" follows. This causes most plants to die on a planetary scale causing the rest of life to die within months or maybe a couple of years due to mass starvation. If Truss launches nukes, everyone dies. Humanity is over. It's that simple.
