China has the " middle kingdom " principle China called itself the middle kingdom throughout its history of thousands of years It is basically the belief that certain land is part of China and it's called the middle kingdom it shouldn't be occupied by foreigners or divided among Chinese it should be unified under Chinese leadership and a competent God emperor The land around it was considered not valuable enough to be ruled by Chinese emperor but their rulers should give gifts and annual tribute to the emperor and no ruler should ascend his thrown there before sending gifts to the emperor first
