@byzansimp He was too arrogant to admit that Arabs were superior Also agreeing to such peace is indirectly admitting that Islam is stronger than christianity

@TingTong2568 Each of the empires had more resources and manpower than the Arabs Arab armies just introduced new kind of tactics and warfare that was unstoppable back then

@billychops1280 People lived in Italy during the Ostrogoth rule in better conditions than during the late Roman empire and the Italian wars

@TingTong2568 Before the early Islamic conquests warfare favored tactics that relied on strength over mobility but the Arabs relied completely on mobility over strength and it was unstoppable

Because Arabs introduced new kind of warfare Typical armies in antiquity preferred strength over mobility but Arabs ditched armor and strength for speed and maneuverability which took Romans decades to adapt to

The Romans literally taxed Egyptians to death and persecuted the Coptic church and killed so many of its followers that they called that era the era of martyrs

The great Roman Sassanid war killed 10% of Egypt and Levant civilian population and both Romans and Sassanids were very oppressive When Heraclius reconquered Egypt in 629 he forced the Egyptians to pay 10 years worth of heavy taxes since they didn't pay any taxes during that time (due to Sassanid occupation) he persecuted the Jews and wanted to forced them to convert to christianity The Romans persecuted Monophosites and Coptic and Nestorian churches for not being orthodox Christians The Roman tax on Egypt during peace times was 60% heavier than the one imposed by Arabs The Sassanids had list of luxurious items and made it illegal for peasants and poors to buy them even if they saved up the money because they believed that only the house of Sassan and nobility have the right to enjoy them The Sassanid taxes were heavier than the Romans and it was normalized for the upper class men to rape women of lower class even if they were married (at some point as Khosrow I stopped it)

Actually the Romans were doing better during the beginning of the battle since they had better experience in naval warfare so the Arabs decided to tie the ships with ropes thus connecting the ships and turning the naval battle into land battle which turned the tide of the battle in Arabs favor

The regions of Caucasus back then were named Albania and Iberia Later on a region in Balkans was named Albania and Spain and Portugal were named Iberia There was also a region in central Russia called Bulgaria and the name was later used for a country in Balkans

Funny enough they didn't colonize those lands Arabization was a very different process than modern day colonialism done by Europeans in America or Australia for example or Russian colonialism The Arabs didn't displace the local populations nor they moved in big numbers to those lands as settler colonialism like Russia (the population of Syria was 10 times bigger than Arabia back then) instead they made Arabic the official language and made the descendants of the local populations adapt Arabic cultures instead For example during the 9th century the Abassid caliphate banned the use of any other language other than Arabic due to the fact that most of the population was still using other languages Islam was still a minority religion even during the 10th century in Egypt and Iran and Syria since non muslims had the right to keep their religions as long as they pay their taxes It was more profitable for Muslim leaders to have most of their subjects as non Muslims since they can tax them more Islamization process happened centuries later due to the weakening and fracturing of the Abassid caliphate central power Yet it took almost to the 11th-12th centuries to become the majority religion

They held long enough until the Arabs were no longer unified politically If Arabs remained unified till the 10th century at least then the empire wouldn't be able to survive nor will the Mediterranean Europe either On the other hand Constantinople walls were impossible to conquer before gunpowder and the theme system proved efficient at defending Anatolia

The Sassanids were already stretched thin by then and didn't even have enough troops to maintain control over the new territories let alone a conquest of Arabia
