  1. China doesn't have to invade. Taiwan's food self-sufficiency is only 35%. They require constant imports of food. All China has to do is cut off Taiwan's imports. It wouldn't take long. When Taiwan is out of food for a week, they'll give in or die. It probably wouldn't matter to the Chinese which one they choose.

China is now the industrial center for the developed world. It wasn't before the 1980s. Everything is different now. China could take out both Japan and Taiwan together like a giant with a flyswatter. Don't be fooled; they know their advantages and they know that we've depleted our military stores for Ukraine. They also know that they have our manufacturing base on their own shores, which wasn't true before. We can't help Taiwan or Japan if they go to war with China. It just isn't physically possible. We could try throwing paper dollars at them, I suppose.
