I always owe more than my employer takes out; I don't get a refund. The average refund is only about $2000. I guarantee you that it's a small fraction of what they paid in. My income is just slightly above the average in my state, and I pay more than $1000/month and like I said, I end up sending more with my tax return, no refund. And that's just the federal. We have very high state taxes, too, one of the 5 highest state tax rates in the country.

I see more and more comments on non-progressive articles and videos blaming every conceivable ill on capitalism. I don't think they understand what capitalism is. The word has become some boogeyman that goes bump in the night but they never look at it to notice that it's not some exotic monster, but grandpa who got up to get a glass of milk. Capitalism is what puts the clothes on their back and food on the table. It's what mows their lawn, whether they pay to have it done or they buy a lawnmower.
