@gtengineer1967 Less profit for Russia seems like a pretty small issue compared to Europe freezing to death this winter. Compared to Germany shutting down all manufacturing for the foreseeable future (and that information comes via the German government). Europe hasn't been able to substitute green energy like they were bragging about and OPEC has said that it can't increase production.

I don't see how it could work. The plan is to keep Russian tankers from getting insurance. The Russian government could insure the tankers, problem solved. There's also been talk of a Russian insurance company stepping up. In any case, Russia doesn't have to sell to hostile countries; Europe already is suffering from the loss of Russian oil and gas, and it'll get worse as the cold weather hits. Japan imports 9% of their natural gas and 11% of their coal from Russia. Considering Japan's large population, who are they going to tell to freeze to death? What part of their economy are they willing to shut down? I understand that they plan to get more of their nuclear plants operating, but that isn't instant.

Consider that the Ukraine forces have been shelling Donbas for the last eight years and the rest of Ukraine was just fine with that. They're monsters.
