  1. Wow, that's not true! When prices go up, demand goes down. Put tax on a thing and people stop buying it. The tobacco tax, for example. My state put another tax on cigarettes and planned their budget around all of that lovely money they'd be getting, but surprise! People stopped buying cigarettes. The state didn't get any of that money they had planned on. That's also the idea behind sugar tax, to get people to stop buying it. Another example: in South Korea, domestic cosmetic companies couldn't get a foothold in the market because Japanese products were so popular. So the government put a tariff on Japanese cosmetic, and South Korean cosmetics companies took off. Now Korean cosmetics are famous all over the world.
