@warriorxtman2 If you rent, then you don't have to mow the grass, shovel the snow, buy the new furnace, buy the new water heater, buy the new refrigerator and stove, have the driveway redone, reroof, etc. We've done this stuff in the 20 years we've lived in our house. We need new windows, too. I don't think we'll be doing this in 10 years when we're retired. Renting has a lot going for it if the cost to rent is a good deal compared to the cost of buying. When we bought, rents in our town were through the roof; then developers built too many apartment buildings and couldn't fill them, so rents plummeted. I wish I had known that was going to happen. One other result was that our small house didn't appreciate in value much at all. Totally not worth it.
