That works if you're independently wealthy or have a profession where you can live anywhere, but if you aren't so lucky, that la-di-da attitude can land you homeless.

@juliemarriott7395 Well, that's ironic, considering that many people in Finland are paranoid that Russia still intends to take over Finland.

Well, yeah. In the 80s, Russia was entirely different. The Communists were still in power; you had to stand in line for hours just to buy toilet paper or a pair of badly made shoes that might not even be in your size. Russia is now almost entirely self-sufficient. It's a net exporter of food. It's highly industrialized. Unlike us. We have to import 20% of our fresh vegetables and 80% of our fruit. We import (from Russia) 97% of our potassium fertilizer, and a good bit of other fertilizers. Our manufacturing has been mostly outsourced to other countries. Russians wanting to emigrate to the US don't know what they're trading

When was that? Putin signed into law the right of citizens to carry firearms almost everywhere in 2014. That was purposely to combat the mafia.

I agree. Life in Russian cities and most towns is at least as good as most Americans experience. Most of the manufacturing jobs in the US have been gone for decades; what are left now are mostly low-paying jobs. Half of all American households live wholly or partially on government benefits, because the good-paying jobs that most Americans used to have were outsourced to other countries. Think about that; 50%, as of 2014, and that was before the covid shutdowns.

The international cat-show organization even banned cats with the word Russian in their breed's name. Russians are being fired from their jobs because they're Russian. It's crazy.

Also, a doctor in Russia wouldn't be qualified to be a doctor in the United States. Professional qualifications don't transfer from one country to another. And savings in Russia would be worth only a fraction of the amount when transferred to the US. If you have half a million rubles, that's only about $50,000, just an average income for a year, and most people can't build savings living on that amount. In big cities, the cost of living is several times higher than that. Some people commenting here make it sound like it's easy, but they don't seem to have to earn a living. They just travel all the time.
