  2. Smart people want to compare prices as part of the cost of living to salary. Ignorant people just see the prices and say wow, how lucky you are that things are so cheap! Of course salary doesn't go just to food, but when the average salary in Russia is $20,000 US and the average salary in the US is $53,000, it isn't reasonable to expect the cost of goods to be the same.
