  2. Kudos to the experts who handle unexploded bombs. When I was an Army MP in the 1970s in VA we got a call from some frightened electricians saying they found bombs under the old WWII barracks they were working on. I volunteered to crawl under and take a look. I recognized them as inert mortar training projectiles. I called the Bomb Disposal folks who confirmed that the blue ones were safe. My partner and I "forgot" to radio that particular information to the PMO, our police station. As we came into the station my partner announced loudly that we were unable to determine if they are live so we brought them in. And I dumped an armload of them on the desk. Our desk sergeant jumped from his chair ordering me to be careful. It was Hilarious. Fortunately our patrol supervisor was behind the desk and she knew I was joking. She laughed her head off. One of my favorite memories from the Army.

  47. In the 1970s the US Army stationed me at two forested areas for three years just before I got out. I didn’t realize how used to seeing the stars I had become until I returned to Los Angeles, California. The stars were gone and it felt oppressive. Like a weight pressing on me every night. I moved to N California immediately and never looked back. I regularly go outside to watch the ISS pass overhead and sit with the skunks under the stars.

  49. In the early 1970s I took leave from West Germany to see London. I was impressed with the beauty and safety of the city. The Tower was stunning then. It must be truly amazing now, restored to it's original glory.
