Privacy Valued This is a tough one. I got my first gun for my 11th birthday. I gave the same .22 bolt action rifle to my Son on his 11th birthday. I believe that kids in my family respect guns (and can be trusted with them) is because they were always a part of life. Kids in my family don't feel an urge to play with firearms because they can go to the range and shoot them all they want. Respect for the potential for tragedy is ingrained first and safety is verbalized constantly. We are an Army family and treat our weapons like soldiers do. But I still don't trust other people's kids and I want gun owners to be Fully responsible for whatever their guns are used for. As if they had fired the weapon themselves.
