As a former Army and civilian cop I thought it important to understand the defund the police movement. It makes sense, except for that dumb name. It means providing mental health experts to defuse situations where law enforcement only has force available. I wasn't trained to deal with mentally ill people. All I could do was arrest them and put them in the system. If they didn't cooperate, we harmed them with or use of force. Who wouldn't want this to change?
