  1. As a former US Army Military Policeman and Drill Sergeant this is a very influential tragedy. It amazes me how many Americans still believe that military members obey "direct orders". We don't. After this obscenity the rules changed. Since Viet Nam we obey only "lawful orders". In fact following an illegal order is a crime punishable under the UCMJ.
