  1. I was eleven years old when I realized religion isn’t real. “One Way” in the early 1960s in California was my whole life. I felt I had to be mistaken but I clearly wasn’t. It was terrifying for a child. But I forced myself to accept that I was living in a culture where almost everyone was living a lie. The ending of the remake of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” reminded me of my youth, hiding my truth. I didn’t dare tell anyone that I was an atheist until I got into the Army. Now I pretty much wear my reason proudly on my sleeve.
