Trains are dumb.
Americans want freedom, individuality, liberty and independence. We don't want to be crammed like sardines smelling other people's hairy armpits in underground trains.
We want flexibility of cars, to go where we want, when we want, load what we want and operate on our own timetable sitting in privacy. We don't want to be held beholden to train arrival, departure times, stopping, loading, changeovers, and other regulations. And best of all, our gas prices are dirt cheap compared to the Eurosocialists.
