@robertfonovic3551 Are motorists not being bled dry now? Running an EV is much cheaper than running an ICE vehicle.

@hankosaurus I have no idea what a price on range anxiety is. You will have to be much clearer. As for cold weather, maybe you can ask people in Scandinavia and China about how their EV's perform in those climates. They seem to be choosing EV's even in cold climates. Sure there may be some circumstances where EVs are not the optimal choice, just like for solar panels. But at least 80-90% of people on the planet would find it cheaper to run an EV without problems. If you're in that small minority, don't buy an EV. But don't try and argue that your concerns apply to anything but a small minority of car users.

Is the air pollution not bad enough as it is? The health problems will be devastating.

@JohnSmith-ms2cl I remember gas. It was around 45 cents back in 2000. Now it's around 85-90 cents and that's nearly a quarter century later. Still half the price of petrol.
1
@JohnSmith-ms2cl No you don't. You use maybe 10%-15% more. You save a fortune in fuel.
1
@JohnSmith-ms2cl You don't use your brain much. In Melbourne, lpg is less than 90 cents. It's probably similar in other major cities and towns around Australia.
1
@JohnSmith-ms2cl Is that your way of conceding that you're wrong? Whatever issues Melbourne faces has nothing to do with our discussion.
1
@hemaccabe4292 No. China is in it for the long haul.
1
@ricecrash5225 Russia has reduced its oil exports by close to a million barrels a day over the past few months. So I'd say it's your comment that's irrelevant.
1
@Teslafan9519 That sounds like a recipe for economic collapse. If everything is getting cheaper, why buy it today rather than delay the purchase until it's cheaper? Deflation is far riskier than inflation.
1
@Teslafan9519 Food is only one part of the economy.

I have a lot of respect for Seba but I'm not sure this can happen as quickly as he thinks or will be as utopian as suggested here. Where will all the resources required come from? Already we face the prospect of shortages in copper, lithium, and other resources. Getting mines operational is very time consuming. A typical mine takes 10-15 years from discovering a resource to mining. This revolution is extremely capital intensive. So it will confer greater economic advantage to wealthier nations, corporations and individuals. That will also give them more power than they already have. It also requires advanced science, technology and engineering skills. So again the winners will be the advanced nations and the wealthy. UBI may or may not work. How will poorer countries fund it? Will the super rich be willing to fund it? If they refuse, they will be able to use their army of robots to suppress or eliminate the poor masses. No-one can predict the future but we have to consider all the possibilities and risks going forward.

Hit Chinese EV's with a 100% tariffs. There are also sound environmental reasons for penalizing these imports.
1
@FabioCapela Lots of Chinese vehicles use both nickel and cobalt. Especially the ones being exported to Western countries where range is a bigger issue. Where do they source that nickel and cobalt from? Indonesia and Congo. The mining and processing have virtually non-existent environment regulations and in Congo the use of child labour is common. Stopping those vehicles from entering the West is perfectly justified.

@raymondmagorno5640 He's not saving the country from bankruptcy. Where did you get that crazy idea from? Trump's mob have just passed $4.5 trillion in tax cuts for the very wealthy. The deficit is going to skyrocket. The economy is crashing and burning like a SpaceX rocket.
1
Increasing taxes on the billionaires to the same levels as in the 70's would solve the problem in the blink of an eye. Musk is part of the problem, not the solution.

Trump voters can't afford to buy eggs.
1
@HoxtonHotspur Get your gob off Trump's knob.

@bye7555 You appear to lack the intelligence to understand that he just disproved your point. That BMW is an ICE vehicle.
1
@bye7555 You specifically referred to an EV in your original post. Only a fragile ego has to defend itself after making a mistake. Dude, don't be such a snowflake.
