Please explain how you think NZ's fate is tied to Australia? As someone who has businesses in both countries I just don't see it. NZ has tied itself to China even more than Australia and it has severely damaged it's relationship with the US. NZ is on its own.

That's a good analysis of Australia. Although we have a housing bubble, we have nothing like the sub prime issue that the US had in 2008. With immigration going bonkers over the next 2-3 years there's unlikely to be much of a shakeout. We certainly need to start value adding as suggested by PZ.

@VioIetShift The financial sectors operate under different laws. NZ is a small market for the big 4 Australian banks. NZ may have some degree of reliance on Australia (how much is debatable ) but Australia doesn't need NZ for anything as far as I can tell.

@bens461 I agree. Australia is already well on the way to weaning itself off China. New markets are opening up for critical materials in the US, Europe, India and the rest of Asia and Australia is well placed to take advantage. We already have small Lithium and rare earths processing facilities operating and expanding here. There's a huge opportunity if the government can get it right.
