It may be abundant, but there are few deposits worldwide that are large enough and have a grade high enough to be economically viable to become a mine. And it take many years to discover such a deposit and build a mine. There is indeed a shortage of lithium and it is going to grow over the next few years. The price of lithium carbonate and hydroxide has increased nearly 1000% for good reasons.

@observer3137 Do any of the companies involved have a proven technology for extracting the lithium from theses geothermal brines? Do any of them have the environmental approvals required to build a lithium mine? Do any of them know how to process the lithium to eliminate the impurities in these brines? Let me know when anyone has mined the first lithium there. I guarantee you it will be many years, if ever.

@JayMcKinsey Refer to my previous post. Let me know when it's developed. Until then I will continue to doubt that any lithium mine will be permitted and built there.

@JayMcKinsey Maybe you should read up on the size of the lithium market by 2025. It will be well in excess of 1 million tons per annum. That mine will be a drop in the ocean if it is ever built. My reading suggests there is some complex chemistry involved and that there is no proven technology that resolves the issues in an economically viable way. Does the company you are referring to have a DFS or BFS? I have seen many projects fail because of unproven technology. You let me know when Salton Sea lithium is powering millions of EV's as the OP claimed it would I won't hold my breath.
