But surely, your government and your populace can protect your borders and your national interest by supporting Ukraine and Taiwan all at once. The US can walk and chew gum at the same time, so to speak. Why frame it in black/white terms? Your concern for your borders suggests you are concerned to protect national interest. Doesn't it follow that helping Ukraine and Taiwan is also a part of protecting your national interest? Russia has been pointing nukes at you for 7 decades. China for 4 decades. It helps to know who your friends are and who your enemies are.

  9.  @robertshelton3796  Ukraine is being invaded by Russia, a country that is pointing several hundred nuclear weapons at the US. Russia has made it clear that Ukraine is just the beginning. It wants all the former Soviet Union republics back.That is among their main demands.Several of these are NATO members. The US, being a NATO member, will be asked to defend these nations when Russia invades. It will be in a war against Russia. If Ukraine can defeat Russia or at least contain the war within Ukraine, the US will avoid going to war against Russia. It's hard to escape the conclusion that it is in the US' best interests to support Ukraine. Russia and China have made it clear that they want to dethrone the US as the global superpower. That includes de-dollarisation.The USD would no longer be the world's reserve currency. The US would have significantly less power and be far poorer if they succeed. You didn't answer my question. Will US national security be greater if Russia and China succeed? Will the US be better off by being poorer? Is that in your national interest? Will more totalitarianism and less freedom be good for the US? Thankfully your government and your military know what's in your nations best interests.
