  1. At a 50% tariff many imports will become uncompetitive in the market and those goods and services will never be imported. So the government will not collect any tariff revenue from those items. To make up for those losses in revenue they will need to raise the tariff to 100%. But then the same thing would happen again. Many more goods and services would become uncompetitive and no tariff revenue would be raised. Then they would have to raise the tariff to 200% etc. Conclusion: tariffs can never replace even close the amount of revenue being raised by income tax. Trump is going to destroy the economy.
