  1. My experience is that Indians can't resist these kinds of temptations. Anything that will drop a few extra rupees in their pocket in the short-term, at the cost of the long-term, is irresistible to most of them. It's one of the main reasons India can never be a global economic power and can never be like China.

  2. It is, however, crippled with a bureaucracy that is old and has a pro-soviet mindset. If they could just get rid of that mindset it position India far better for the future.

  3. That's not a rookie mistake. India was pro- Soviet and still is but to a lesser degree. Increasing India's imports of Russian oil from less than 2% to more than 25% since the Russian invasion of Ukraine is a sure sign of where India stands. Prior to the BJP gaining power all of the Congress governments were very heavily influenced by Socialism and Russia by extension. Watch what Indians do, not what they say.

  5.  @cletushatfield8817  Oil is one example and a powerful one at that Give me some examples of India not being pro-Russian. They could just state clearly that they condemn Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine. Have they done that? No.
