  1. @ Keven Dudgeon. Yes essentially you are right – For non-nuclear military Force, the US does not have to fear from nearly anybody else. But this fact does add to the hypocrisy at play – If the US does not fear e.g Russia on the battlefield, then they should have very little to fear from Iran or North Korea. But how many times has it not been portrayed like that? eg. At the beginning of the Irak invasion – Ohh the Republican Garde, later Al Queda and ISIS. Well, that is war propaganda at best. A little bit below these PR scams something else is lurking. The fact that even with the immense US technology at hand, Russia does have pretty good countermeasures. An example is their mobile missile systems – They are not exactly new new, but in combination, those 3 main Russian mobile defense missile systems are pretty effective against various intrusion objectives that might come from the Western forces either as planes, drones or missile. The latest iterations of the Mig Multirole fighter is also still a very capable warplane vs Western warplanes. Then there is the Morale aspect of the men on the ground. This is a cultural interesting aspect. The US forces are in general highly bolstered up – Let´s Go, Le´ts Do this! etc, the classical US over the top mentality, the unit hype moving forward approach – But when one studies the aftermath of many US veterans – deep human wounds are obvious, like a mirror that has cracked to reveal another far less heroic revelation. The Russians have without doubt many similar cases, but the "Slav" mentality is far more rural and pragmatic with the terrifying spice of also being extremely raw and brutal. In a prolonged ground engagement with casualties on both sides the Heroic image of young western soldiers will be likely to crack over that rather crude giving no shit vodka approach. Such scenario will eventually only leave the best-suited soldiers on the ground and that will even the unbalance severely. The biggest and most important asset of the US War machine is without doubt Air Superiority – And it is like that because in nearly all post WWII scenarios no enemy had anything even remotely that could pose a challenge to Air combat and strategic insurgents like missile strikes. But put the Russians on the other side and there will certainly be casualties on both sides. The US will still be supreme on the battlefield, but not so much in the press and in the public. The West, in particular, is very sensitive to a large number of own casualties – And I am not saýing that Russians mothers won´t cry, just that it will not matter so much due to the way Russia is governed. A huge movement in public opinion for a war with many casualties can be the very loss of a Western offensive. If the US did not have any fear or respect for the Russian military they would have hit the Russian Tundra for natural gas a long time ago, but instead, it has been a +50 year slow creep avoiding direct confrontation. There are for sure many other strategic, economic and political reasons for this, one being the oil flow that comes from Russia. Russia is still the 2nd largest oil producer int he world after the Saudis and Russia still do sell its oil on the open market – That is, of course, another major reason not to "intervene". The West and in particular the US wants access to that black gold as a Junkie wants his fix – When the fix is offered at reasonable prices and traded in US Dollar there is little intent to break that set up. Overall Russia is the war opponent that the US has the least interest in meeting head-on no doubt. At least for now or till a set up will allow for nearly no human losses and the Western War Command is assured to keep the upper hand from the very beginning. And yes, as you Say; Puting is not that Stupid – In fact Puting is far from stupid on the contrary he is highly adept and knows "the game" form the inside which is something that can not be ignored in the case of an escalation. A commander in chief must be able to make the right decision in a war scenario and I am sure as it is now Puting is superior in that part vs Trumps ego-emotional and unpredictable de-rails.
