Had Thorium been chosen back then we would not have had this debate, and possibly also not much debate about our energy consumption/demand. But the Uranium was chosen and here we are – naturally, the companies that run the Uranium based business are not likely to give it up, it's their core business. As we have seen with EV batteries the capacity has doubled in about 5 years times – because when the big players start to do such things the developments is fairly rapid. Thorium could possibly replace and revolutionize large parts of the global energy demand and be the default backbone for Windmills, Solar and other renewable energy sources. Apart from that, it would also be nice to see the military stop using uranium-based materials in ammunition, that is simply extremely unethical and should be banned globally. I mainly support thorium because of the much better safety promise with molten salt reactors not being able to actually melt down. How many times have we humans thought – ohh! we are going to make a great Wall to protect something – then having a 12m wall towards the ocean does not help much if the waves coming in are 18m. We still do not know what cataclysmic events the earth can unravel and for this reason, the Uranium based solutions are simply way too risky even that they are much better than they once were.
